Common Issues and Solutions

When using personalised hypnosis sessions with your child, you might encounter some challenges. Here are practical solutions to the most common issues parents face.

When Your Child Resists Listening

“I don’t want to listen tonight”

  • Don’t force it - this creates negative associations
  • Ask if they’d prefer to listen tomorrow instead
  • Offer a choice: “Would you like Part 1 or Part 2 tonight?”
  • Sometimes tiredness makes children more resistant

Consistent refusal to listen:

  • Review the environment - is it too stimulating?
  • Check the timing - are they overtired or not tired enough?
  • Consider whether they’re going through a difficult phase
  • Take a break for a few days and try again

Handling Disruptions

Siblings interrupting:

  • Explain to other children that it’s quiet time
  • Consider staggered bedtimes during session weeks
  • Use a “Do Not Disturb” sign on the door
  • Have other children in a different part of the house

External noises:

  • Use white noise machines if needed
  • Close windows during busy traffic times
  • Let family members know session times in advance
  • Consider moving to a quieter room

Child needs toilet during session:

  • Always encourage bathroom visits before starting
  • If they must go, pause the session and restart from beginning
  • Don’t make it a big deal - just restart when they’re ready

Age-Specific Challenges

Younger children (4-7 years):

  • May fidget more - this is normal
  • Might ask questions during session - gently redirect to listening
  • Could fall asleep quickly - perfectly fine
  • May want to listen multiple times - stick to once per night

Older children (8-12 years):

  • Might feel self-conscious - reassure them it’s normal
  • Could question how it works - explain it’s like helpful stories
  • May prefer privacy - respect their independence
  • Might want to choose which part to listen to

Teenagers (13+ years):

  • Often prefer complete privacy during sessions
  • May be initially sceptical - focus on benefits they care about
  • Could want to use their own headphones - support this choice
  • Might prefer listening at different times - be flexible

Managing Your Expectations

Progress isn’t immediately visible:

  • Changes often happen gradually over weeks
  • Look for small improvements in behaviour or mood
  • Don’t ask directly about changes - let them occur naturally
  • Trust the process even when you can’t see results

Child reports “nothing happened”:

  • This is completely normal and expected
  • Hypnosis works with the subconscious mind
  • Conscious memory of sessions isn’t necessary
  • Continue with regular listening schedule

When to Pause the Program

Take a break if:

  • Your child becomes ill (fever, cold, etc.)
  • Family is going through major changes or stress
  • Child is consistently refusing to participate
  • You’re feeling frustrated or pressured about results

How to restart:

  • Begin again with Part 1 when ready
  • Don’t worry about lost time - you can always continue
  • Approach with fresh enthusiasm
  • Consider what might work better this time

Technical Difficulties

Audio issues:

  • Test volume before each session
  • Ensure headphones are comfortable and working
  • Check device battery levels
  • Have a backup device ready if needed

Child falls asleep too quickly:

  • This is actually beneficial - their subconscious keeps listening
  • Don’t wake them when session ends
  • Continue with normal schedule the next night

Remember, every child responds differently to hypnosis. Some show immediate changes while others take several weeks. The key is consistency and patience. If you continue to have concerns, don’t hesitate to contact our clinic for personalised guidance.
